Group of 40 False Killer Whales and Dolphins Stranded, Sadly

Grover emphasized the importance of people being in the water, following the receding tide to act as a human barrier during whale strandings. He highlighted that human health and safety are top priorities in such situations, expressing concern about individuals becoming exhausted and straining available resources.

A video surfaced on a local Facebook page this afternoon, depicting whales thrashing in shallow waters near a rocky beach, tails waving amidst white water. In response, conservation organizations Project Jonah and the Department of Conservation swiftly mobilized a team to rescue the stranded whales.

Grover acknowledged the challenging circumstances, noting that the beach is isolated, making it a significant stranding event in an area with few nearby residents available to assist. Despite the urgency, he cautioned locals against entering the water with the stranded whales, emphasizing their unpredictability and potential danger
